Our School
in pictures and in words
INSIDE
and OUTSIDE
Number of adults working every day: 5
(4 parents and our director/teacher)
A typical day at school
9:15 | Working parents arrive and begin setting up. |
9:30 | Children start arriving |
9:30-10:30 | Outside play time. We have tricycles, 2 easles with beautiful paints (go to Our Artwork to see them ) and good quality paper. We are located right at the playground (see pictures above), so the children have the playground equipment to play with; swings, monkey bars, sand (we have the sand toys) and others. |
10:30 - 11:30 | Inside time First the children wash their hands and use the restrooms. They are then given a snack and juice. We then proceed to a 10 minute Circle Time activity. Afterwards there are 2 tables (see pictures above) set up by our director with varying projects. They are different each day. Some examples are playdough, gluing projects, lego. The children commonly play at the various tables for a while and proceed to free play which includes ,but is not limited to, dress-up, blocks, kitchen, reading. |
11:30 - 12:00 | LUNCH |
12:00 - 12:15 | Quiet room During this time the director takes the children into the so-called "quiet room". They are read to or they dance to old-fashioned record songs or have other activities. One day a week they have "Show and Share". During these last 15 minutes the working parents tidy up the classroom. |
12:15 | TIME TO GO HOME ! |
We follow the LA Unified School District (LAUSD) calendar. When LAUSD schools are open, so are we, when they take off, so do we.
Bench Time
Parents of new children will spend the first two entire weeks on the so-called "Bench". The parent will observe while sitting. The child will often approach the parent. However, the director and other parents will help the child as often as possible.
This will allow the child to adjust to the new environment and gives the parent the opportunity to understand and learn the everyday parent routines.
Bench time is mandatory.
